Tuolumne County, California

Tuolumne County islocated in the state of California; the county was created in 1850 at the time of statehood. Parts of the county were given to Stanislaus County in 1854 and to Alpine County in 1864. The county seat and only incorporated city is Sonora .According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 55,365 people and a total area of 2,274 square miles. Tuolumne County borders the following counties: Alpine County to the north, Calaveras County to the northwest, Stanislaus County to the southwest, Mariposa County to the south, Madera County to the southeast, Mono County to the east, and Merced County to the southwest.

The Tuolumne County Recorder is responsible for maintaining documents which are required or authorized by California law to be recorded, if the document contains the required information and is photographically reproducible. Currently the recorder’s office has over 600,000 documents that have been recorded since 1973.

The recorder’s website is informative and has easy to follow steps that will lead you to the records that are available online. In addition, the website has the fee schedule applicable when requesting public records.

You can also obtain public records by visiting the recorder’s office at 2 S. Green St. Third Floor, Sonora, CA 95370. You will be required to submit a records request form. The county also offers indexes of some of its historical vital records at all of its kiosks in the Recorder’s Office.
