San Bernardino County, California

San Bernardino County, located in southern California, is the largest county in the contiguous United States, covering an area of 20,105 square miles. This makes it larger than the nine smallest states. It was formed in 1853 from part of Los Angeles County, and has a population of 2,035,210. The county seat, originally a Spanish mission, is also named San Bernardino.

The San Bernardino County Recorder is responsible for records such as liens, judgments, deeds and notices, where documents are kept permanently for research purposes used to determine the history and ownership of a given piece of property. In addition, the county recorder also maintains and issues certified copies of all vital records, including marriage, birth and death records that occurred in San Bernardino County. Bob Dutton is the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk of San Bernardino County as of 2015.

Obtaining public records in the county will require you to do a search online or visit the records department in person. To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the San Bernardino County Recorder’s Website. However, some records cannot be accessed online; to obtain such records you will be required to visit the county recorder’s office in person.
