The El Dorado County Recorder accepts records and maintains, for permanent record, certain legal documents affecting vital statistics and land title in the county. The recorder’s office also maintains a daily index of these documents for research, reference, and issuance of certified copies. William E. Schults is the El Dorado County recorder-clerk; he was elected to office in January 1995 and re-elected to a 6th term that commenced in January 2015.

The County Clerk is responsible for issuing and registering marriage licenses; filing notary bond certificates; accepting and indexing Fictitious Business Name statements, inventory statements, surety bonds, powers of attorney, and certain environmental documents; and maintaining a list of public rosters.

Public records can be accessed by doing a search online, by mail, or by doing a search in person at the recorder’s office. To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the El Dorado County Clerk Website. While on the website, click on the relevant link to access the records that are available online. In addition to public records, the website also has links to other websites that offer more information. While on the website, remember to visit Clerk Copy Fees to view the fees applicable when obtaining public records.

For records that cannot be accessed online, you will be required to visit the recorder’s office in person at the Placerville Office, 360 Fair Lane, Placerville, CA  95667 or the South Lake Tahoe Office, 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., #108, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. You will have to download the records request form from the county website, fill it out, and submit it to the recorder’s office. The charges remain the same as when obtaining records online. Alternatively, if you cannot make it to the recorder’s office in person, you can call the office through (530) 621-5490. Though you cannot access public records by phone, it is a sure way to get information regarding public records.
