The Alameda County Clerk-Recorder is responsible for examining, accepting, and recording documents and vital records, and performs other general business functions for the county.  Some of the records maintained by the County Clerk-Recorder include, but are not limited to, birth records, death notices, marriage and divorce records, deeds, liens, military discharges and other documents mandated by law to be recorded.

The public can access court records; the records can be viewed and copied at most court locations throughout Alameda County. However, most civil case records can also be accessed online. To access or do a search online, you will have to visit the court website. The website has most case records (information and documents).

The public may also do a search of court records in person at no cost. The county has indexes and public access terminals that are available for public use. Call one of the Records Units at the telephone numbers listed below to find out where a case record can be viewed. It is also important to note that you can only view file of public records while on the premises; you are prohibited from taking or removing any documents from designated areas at any time. Hours of service are 8:30AM – 4:30PM, Monday through Friday, for all locations. Public records can also be accessed by mail; to obtain public records by mail, fill out the records request form and mail it to the address below. The records will be sent to your address with a period of one week.
