Saline County, Arkansas

Saline County was established in 1835. Much of Arkansas’s production of bauxite, used to make aluminum, originated in Saline County. The county seat is Benton, and the population is approximately 103,000.

Myka Bono is the Saline County Circuit Clerk as of 2015. Bono is the clerk of the juvenile, criminal, domestic relations and civil courts. Duties of the Circuit Clerk include keeping a record of all proceedings of the juvenile, criminal, domestic relations and civil courts; preparing the dockets for these courts; and preparing summons, warrants, orders, judgments and injunctions authorized by the circuit, domestic relations and juvenile court for delivery by the county sheriff. The Circuit Clerk also acts as an ex-officio county recorder whose responsibilities include recording mortgages, surety bonds, liens, deeds, and other orders and instruments which involve property within the county.

However, the County Clerk is the official bookkeeper of county government and serves as the clerk for the probate court, quorum court, and the county court. In addition, the County Clerk also serves as the secretary of the Board of Equalization and Intergovernmental Council Board. The county clerk maintains all county court records, including business of the County Court such as board appointments, bonds, right of way acquisition, contracts, improvement districts, proclamations, levy of taxes, county purchases, election results, annexations, incorporations, and agreements signed by the County Judge. With the adoption of Amendment 51 to the Arkansas Constitution in 1966, the clerk became the official voter registrar in the county. The clerk therefore maintains a voter registration list within the office and stores the ballot boxes between elections. Furthermore, the clerk maintains absentee ballots and is responsible for early voting.
