Lonoke County, Arkansas

Lonoke County, established in 1873, was named for a large red oak tree used as a landmark when the area was being surveyed. It is the only county in Arkansas that has a county seat of the same name. It is located in central Arkansas and has a population of 52,828.

The Circuit Clerk acts as the ex-officio recorder for the county, in addition to serving as clerk of the civil, domestic relations, criminal, and juvenile courts. Duties of the Circuit Clerk include maintaining records of all proceedings of the juvenile, domestic relations and civil courts; preparing the dockets for these courts; and preparing orders, warrants, judgments, summons and injunctions authorized by the court for delivery by the county sheriff. Furthermore, being the ex-officio county recorder, the Circuit Clerk is responsible for recording liens, mortgages, deeds, surety bonds, and other orders and instruments which involve property within the county. Court records and lawsuit records are maintained by the clerk as permanent records.
