Howard County, Arkansas Overview

Located in the state of Arkansas, Howard County has a population of about 13,789, according to the US Census Bureau. The county seat is Nashville, it is also the largest community. Howard County is Arkansas’s 74th county, formed on April 17, 1873, and named for James Howard, a state senator. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. The total square miles of the county are 595, 589 of that is land, and the remaining 6.8 square miles is water. A portion of the nationally protected, Ouachita National Forest lies in the county. Howard county is bordered by five Arkansas counties, Polk to the north, Pike to the east, Hempstead to the southeast, Little River to the southwest, and Sevier to the west. The Circuit Clerk is the Clerk of the Circuit Courts and acts as the ex-officio recorder of Greene County. The Circuit Court is made up of Domestic Relations, Civil, Criminal, and Juvenile Courts.

Administrative duties of the Circuit Clerk are to maintain a record of all proceedings of the Circuit Courts and to prep the dockets for these Courts. The Circuit Clerk issues summons, warrants, subpoenas and writs as authorized by the Circuit Court for delivery by the Greene County Sheriff or private court-appointed process server. The Circuit Clerk also maintains a file of all cases pending with the Circuit Court, as well as all the records of past court cases and their dispositions.
