Hot Spring County, Arkansas Overview

Located in the state of Arkansas, Hot Spring County has a population of about 32,923, according to the US Census Bureau. The county seat, and largest community is Malvern. Hot Spring County was formed on November 2, 1829, from a portion of Clark County. It was named for the hot springs at Hot Springs, Arkansas, which were within its boundaries until Garland County was formed in 1874. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. However, there is no record of this law. Hot Spring County contains two state parks, DeGray Lake Resort State Park and Lake Catherine State Park, and one Wildlife Management Area (WMA), DeGray Lake WMA, maintained by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The county also contains 320 acres of Ouachita National Forest managed by the National Forest Service. The total square miles of the county are 622, 615 of that is land, and the remaining 7 square miles is water. Hot Spring County is surrounded by six counties, including the Ouachitas, Central Arkansas, and Lower Arkansas Delta, due to its short and wide shape. The county neighbors Garland County to the north, Saline County in the northeast corner, Grant County to the east, Dallas County to the southeast, Clark County to the south, and a small portion with Montgomery County in the northwest. The county is divided into 12 zip codes, the largest of which is 72104.

The Circuit Clerk is the Clerk of the Circuit Courts and acts as the ex-officio recorder of Greene County. The Circuit Court is made up of Domestic Relations, Civil, Criminal, and Juvenile Courts.

Administrative duties of the Circuit Clerk are to maintain a record of all proceedings of the Circuit Courts and to prep the dockets for these Courts. The Circuit Clerk issues summons, warrants, subpoenas and writs as authorized by the Circuit Court for delivery by the Greene County Sheriff or private court-appointed process server. The Circuit Clerk also maintains a file of all cases pending with the Circuit Court, as well as all the records of past court cases and their dispositions.
