Craighead County, Arkansas

Craighead County is Arkansas’s 58th county, formed on February 19, 1859, and named after state Senator Thomas Craighead. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 96,443 people and a total area of 713 square miles. The county has two county seats — Jonesboro and Lake City. It is one of several dry counties within the state of Arkansas, in which the sale of alcoholic beverages is largely prohibited. Craighead County borders the following counties: Greene County to the north, Dunklin County, Missouri to the northeast, Mississippi County to the east, Poinsett County to the south, Jackson County to the west, and Lawrence County to the northwest.

Candace Edwards is the Craighead County Circuit Clerk as of 2015; she acts as the the clerk of the circuit, domestic relations, and juvenile court, and is also the ex-officio county recorder. In addition, the Circuit Clerk’s office is responsible for recording mortgages, surety bonds, liens, anddeeds, and is the county collector of child support. The Circuit Clerk also swears in all notaries public. The circuit clerk prepares summons, judgments, orders, warrants, and injunctions authorized by the circuit, domestic relations, and juvenile court for delivery by the county sheriff.
