Bradley County, Arkansas Overview

Located in the state of Arkansas, Bradley County has a population of about 11,508, according to the US Census Bureau. The county seat is Warren, and it is also the largest community. It is Arkansas’s 43rd county, formed on December 18, 1840, and named for Captain Hugh Bradley, who fought in the War of 1812. It is an alcohol prohibition county, and is the home of the world-famous Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival. The county has a total area of 653 square miles, most of which is land at 649 square miles and the remaining 3.7 is water. During the period of 1837 to 1861, settlers arrived from Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Before 1860, to reach the available farmland of northwestern Louisiana and southwestern Arkansas, settlers from the Gulf Coast states most often crossed the Mississippi River at Natchez, then came up the Ouachita River into Bradley County. The county is bordered on all sides by other Arkansas Counties, Cleveland to the north, Drew to the east, Ashley to the southeast, Union to the southwest and Calhoun to the west. The Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, which is partially in the county is under National protection. Bradley County uses six zip codes and the largest is 71671.
