Benton County, Arkansas

Benton County is located in the state of Arkansas; the county was formed on September 30, 1836 and named after Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 221,339 people and a total area of 884 square miles, making it the second-most populous county in Arkansas. In 2012, Benton County voters elected to make the county wet, or a non-alcohol prohibition location. The county seat is Bentonville.

The Benton County Circuit Clerk’s Office consists of the following four divisions: recorder’s office, juvenile, child support and courts. Brenda Deshields is the Benton County Circuit Clerk as of 2015; she is the clerk of the juvenile, criminal, domestic relations and civil courts and also acts as the ex-officio recorder for the county. Duties of the Circuit Clerk include maintaining a record of all proceedings of the civil, domestic relations and juvenile courts; preparing summons, warrants, orders, judgments and injunctions authorized by the circuit, domestic relations and juvenile court for delivery by the county sheriff; and preparing the dockets for these courts. As ex-officio county recorder, the Circuit Clerk is responsible for recording surety bonds, liens, mortgages, deeds, and other orders and instruments which involve property within the county, and swearing in all notaries public.
