Mohave County, Arizona Overview

Located in the northwest part of the state of Arizona, Mohave County has a population of about 200,186, according to the US Census Bureau. The county seat is Kingman; however, Lake Havasu City is the largest community in the county. Mohave County was created in 1864 and has a total area of 13,461 square miles 150 of which is water, and the remaining 13,311 square miles is land. Mohave County comprises the Lake Havasu City-Kingman, AZ MSA, which is also included in the Las Vegas-Henderson, NV-AZ Combined Statistical Area. The county is bordered by Washington and Kane counties in Utah, Coconino and Yavapai counties to the east, La Paz County to the south, San Bernardino county, California to the southwest, Clark and Lincoln counties in Nevada to the west and northwest. Mohave is the second-largest county by area in Arizona and the fifth-largest in the contiguous United States. Mohave County and its adjacent counties form the largest block of counties outside of Alaska. Their combined land area is 89,567.34 square miles, or larger than that of the state of Idaho. They include the #1 (San Bernardino), #2 (Coconino), #5 (Mohave), and #7 (Lincoln) largest counties outside of Alaska. There are more than 20 nationally protected areas in the county. The county clerk operates under the direction of the presiding court judge. All documents filed in the court are docketed to track the records. While most records are public information, some remain confidential. The clerk has duties, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Issuing jury summons, wage assignments, child support orders and address changes, and marriage licenses
  • Gatekeeper to public access to the Superior Court judicial system
  • Processing filing fees, bail bonds, service fees, appearance bonds, and court-ordered assessments for both juveniles and adults
  • Processing passport applications, servers, and bail bondsmen
