Clay County is located in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county was formed in 1866 and named after Henry Clay, a U.S. legislator from Kentucky. The county seat is Ashland. Clay County borders the following counties: Cleburne County to the north; Randolph County to the east; Tallapoosa County to the south; Coosa County to the southwest; and Talladega County to the west. Clay County Probate Court Information

The primary duties of the Clay County Probate Court include filing adoptions, conservators & guardians, declaration of legitimations, involuntary commitment, adult name changes, will instruments, and issuing hunting and fishing licenses. The Judge of the Clay County Probate Court is also the Chief Election Officer of the county. Documents to be recorded at the Probate Judge’s Office should be brought in person or sent through the mail. Documents that are delivered in person will be processed and returned to the individual on the same day. Documents that are mailed will be processed and sent to the individual within 2-3 business days. Recording fees for deeds, mortgages, judgments, POAs, etc. is $12.50 first page and $3.00 for each additional page. For mortgage releases, assignments, and corrections, the recording fee is $13.50 first page and $3.00 each extra page.
